Well That Was Fascinating...

This past Friday, I went out on a limb and tried something I've been wanting to try for years: I went to a séance. People that know me well will be familiar with my obsession with everything paranormal and/or metaphysical (like a true Scorpio, haha).  When I was a kid, read all the books in the library about ghosts, the Loch Ness Monster, aliens...you name it. So as an adult, I would of course know the location of  my nearest metaphysical store or "witch shop" as I lovingly refer to Catland in Bushwick. I'm always checking on their Instagram for events and stop by every once in a while to browse, and I had noticed they host monthly séances. So I finally decided to go. By myself. (cue the X-Files theme music)

I was not scared at all but rather thrilled to finally go. Above everything else, I was just plain old curious. The séance was led by Rev. Paul Beaudet, a Spiritualist minister and psychic medium. The reading was held in the big open event room adjacent to the book store side of Catland. About 20 or so of us filed into the space where we found our seats, which were situated in  a big circle encompassing a small table with a few candles. I glanced around at the young group and saw a few people who seemed to be meditating but most people were nervously chatting with their respective friends who probably dragged them out to this event on a whim.

The session began with Rev. Beaudet briefly explaining that he only accepted positive spirits and energy into the space so there was no reason to be frightened or afraid. He explained that he has the skills of clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience. He also introduced us to his friend who is also a psychic medium that would also be passing along messages to us. I'm embarrassed to say that I have forgotten the kind woman's name! Rev. Beaudet then started with a quick non-denominational prayer asking that the Higher Power or Great Spirit help us to be open minded and ready for messages from those on the other side. Next, he walked us through a deeply relaxing meditation that was to help calm any remaining nervous energy amongst us.

Immediately after the meditation, the messages started coming through. Rev. Beaudet pointed out a man in the circle and asked if he could "come to him." *Interesting side note: each time one of the psychic mediums called out to one of us, they would first ask permission to pass on messages by using this phrase.* Once the man agreed, the reverend mentioned how he had seen the flag of Scotland near the man and went into a detailed description of a vision he had of this man visiting Scotland in the future to learn more about his family's heritage. After many more detailed descriptions of the journey this man would take, the man acknowledged that he did have a strong Scottish background in Glasgow. Well that was very specific and interesting I thought to myself.

Five very intense (and spot on) readings later, the Rev. Beaudet turned to me and asked if he could read me. Of course I didn't hesitate and things got interesting quite quickly. He first said he saw a 1950's nurse's hat on me. He asked if I was in the medical field or anything like that to which I quickly responded no. He stared at me intensely for a moment and then had a look of surprise on his face and said "HEALER. Oh, you're a healer?" I replied that I wasn't to my knowledge, but then he and the female psychic medium went on to explain that the spirits surrounding me were very emphatic about it. Rev. Beaudet even put his hand up to his left ear and said it was practically being shouted at him. He told me that the spirits were specifying Reiki healing for some reason and that I should look into it. He then kept repeating the word "Powerful." He then stared towards the floor for a moment and then said "Animals? Do you love animals?." I laughed and said yes (very, very true). He went on to explain that I would be skilled in Reiki healing animals.

As if all of this was not unexpected enough, the lady (I'm so annoyed I that I can't remember her name still) asked if she could elaborate. After I agreed, she said that the nurse's cap wasn't only for me but she saw a deceased female spirit related to my mother's side of the family that was guiding me in this "healer path." The female spirit had  either been in the medical field or had some kind of healing energy herself.

Later that night, I called my Mom who is very skeptical of these types of things. She entertained the idea and tried really hard to think of anyone that might fit this description on her side of the family that had passed. After drawing a blank, she mentioned how her Grandmother had sewn up one of their pet chickens and mended the bird's wing after one of the neighborhood dogs had viciously attacked it. I had to laugh to myself because I didn't explicitly mention anything about the Reiki pet healing to my mom. LOL. Also, another interesting note: a few months back I was desperately searching the webs for advice on getting my older cat to stop meowing incessantly. Of course one of the recommendations I found that I haven't  tried yet is, you guessed it, Reiki healing.

So that about sums up my weird, highly entertaining, and thought provoking séance experience. Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely, as long as you enter with an open mind and be prepared to be surprised. Would I do it again? Hell yes! I had enough fun watching other people get read and my reading was the icing on my metaphysical cake! Then again, this totally makes sense coming from someone who is  absolutely fascinated by the possibility of other realms...
